Unmixed: Hardcore & Gabba CDs

Updated: Nov 22, 2023

Fancy a bit of old school gabba? Not too sure where to start and how hard you want to go? If so, take a look at the Hardcore collection from Rumour Records where you will certainly be able to find something to kick start your 200bpm + DJ sets. Unmixed hardcore & gabba goodness doesn't come any better than this!

The series kicked off way back in 1995 with 'Hardcore Terror - Volume One - The Dutch Masters' featuring the all important 'I'm The Fuck You Man' by Wedlock which, at the time, was a bit of a novelty tune here in the UK depending on what you were representing on the dance floor.

Ravers previously unaware of the harder sounds of gabba were directly influenced by the likes of Dougal, Vibes and G E Real (RIP) who all somehow slipped this one into their sets.

That being said, plenty of DJs representing the tougher beats from Holland over here in the UK were no doubt smashing many other tracks like it in first and second arenas across the country.

Hardcore Terror - Volume One - The Dutch Masters

A whopping track listing, full of awesome tunes with literally no fillers. If you brought this back in 1995, it would have been with a smile on your face. If you picked up the vinyl copy, it was, as expected, pretty quiet (as to be expected with 3 tunes per side and each record as thin as a piece of paper).

  • Charly Lownoise & The Mental Theo - The Bird (Radio Edit)

  • Wedlock - I'm The Fuck You Man

  • Body Lotion - Ik Wil Hakke!

  • Human Resource - Fuck Them

  • Evil Maniax - We Are The Creators Of Hardcore (Rotterdam Mix)

  • Predator - Mind of a Lunatic

  • Bertocucci Feranzano - Raver's Movement

  • Scott Brown & DJ Paul - Feel The Music

  • DJ Gizmo & The Darkraver - We Got The Juice

  • Dyewitness & The Nightraver - The Future

  • The Scotchman - Happy Vibes

  • Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Live At London (Hardcore Mix)

A notable mention to Predator's 'Mind of a Lunatic' which was an absolute eye opener back in '95 and one that was played on repeat time and time again. Those reload samples never get old!

Hardcore Cheddar - The Dutch Masters Volume Two

Rumour Records flipped up the title a bit here, opting for cheddar rather than terror. Maybe this compilation series was due for greater things over a longer period of time? Who knows, but one thing is for sure - this was another jam packed episode in everything hard and fast from Holland.

  • Evil Maniax - Psychopath

  • Technohead - I Wanna Be A Hippy (Original Mix)

  • Diss Reaction - Jiiieeehaaa

  • Bass-D & King Matthew - You Are My Destiny

  • DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Go Get Busy (Hardcore Edit)

  • Rave Nation - Going Crazy (Forze DJ Team Mix)

  • M-Jay & Dan Vee - The Sun Always Shines

  • Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Together In Wonderland (Live At The Toilet Mix)

  • Dyewitness - Masterplan (Live Version)

  • Sonicdriver & Stingray - As Cold As Ice (El Bruto Remix)

  • Sonicdriver - In Your Arms Tonight*

  • DJ Paul Elstak - Luv U More (DJ Paul's Forze Mix)

The track listing above really demonstrates how the crossover from Holland to the UK became more apparent in DJ mixes with the likes of 'Luv U More' and 'As Cold As Ice' featuring heavily in sets around 1995 and beyond. Of course the commercial crossover 'I Wanna Be A Hippy' had to sneak in here!

*If you're after a copy of 'In Your Arms Tonight' make sure you pick up the Sonicdriver version and not the Go Mental attempt released in '96 which was certainly not on the same level.

Hardcore Cheddar - The Dutch Masters Volume Three

Volume three sticks with the cheddar title and some may well argue that this is the best release of the series with some heavy hitters from the likes of Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, Highlander and Lovechild.

  • A I R Miles - Children (DJ Isaac Remix)

  • Damage Inc - Turn Around (Remix)

  • External - Circles (Hardcore Edit)

  • Brothers In Crime - Slammin' Beats

  • Phoenix - (Now) Who's In Control

  • Critical Mass - Burning Love (2 Da Core Mix)

  • Highlander - Everytime (Hardcore Mix)

  • Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Stars (Hardcore Mix)

  • Lovechild - All Out Of Love (DJ Weirdo & Sim Mix)

  • Highlander - Hold Me Now (Bass-D & King Matthew Remix)

  • Bass-D & King Matthew Featuring DJ XD - Like A Dream (Bass-D & King Matthew Remix)

  • DJ Isaac - We Like Marihuana (DJ Paul's Forze Mix)

If you owned this on vinyl, no doubt you did the crossfader vocal switch with this bad boy tune. "Ruff, the level the level!".

Hardcore Cheddar - The Dutch Masters Volume Four

This one features the best mix of 'Discoland' plus some absolute monsters from Critical Mass, Paul Elstak and Nakatomi. It's probably best to pass on the '96 remix of 'Dominator' which doesn't live up to the originals classic status in any way.

  • Ferocious - Hardcore Files

  • Trickster - Emphasis Of Hardcore

  • Nakatomi - Children Of The Night (XXL Mix)

  • Human Resource - Dominator 96'

  • D D Zion - Blue Sky (There Is No Law Mix)

  • Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Hardcore Feelings (Mars L & Frank-E Remix)

  • Infernus - I Want Your Love (Bass D & King Matthew Remix)

  • El Bruto - Rock That Shit (Marc Smith Remix)

  • DJ Paul Elstak - Rave On (DJ Paul's Forze Mix)

  • Infernus - 7 Ways

  • Critical Mass - Believe In The Future (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim Future Remix)

  • Tiny Tot - Discoland (Giorgio Prezioso Mix)

Hardcore Future The Dutch Masters Volume Five

The only CD not in my collection. I think this came in a cardboard style box rather than the typical CD case? Here's the track listing:

  • Scott Brown - Hardcore Power

  • Trickster - White Line

  • Dark Destination - Don't Fuck With Me

  • Omar Santana - Bone Bastik

  • Leviathan - We'll Tear Your Soul Apart

  • Syphax - At War

  • Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ (Buzz Fuzz Mix)

  • DJ Fuckface & DJ Chrizz - Suffer

  • Too Hostile - Stab Ya Brain

  • R. Wagner - Listen Carefully

  • Zelator - Centre Of The Earth

  • Crypt - Rise And Shine
